In Finding Your Place, it's 1894, and 11-year-old Ginny's life is about to be turned upside down. First her beloved Grandmother dies, then her parents decide to move away from their failing North Carolina farm to a cotton mill in search of a better life. Ginny is certain it won't be a better life for her—no friends, new school, and a strange new environment. Will she ever fit in?

Praise for Finding Your Place

Tough, loveable, and resilient, 11-year-old-Ginny struggles but finally shines in this absorbing story of a family's move away from the family farm to "one of those new cotton mill towns” where the world of an entire mill village comes brilliantly to life in 1894 North Carolina. One of the most endearing heroines I have ever encountered, Ginny struggles hard to navigate her complex new situation and rise to all the challenges of her new world. The action-filled plot will keep young readers glued to the page rooting for Ginny, just as I did. A superb historical novel for readers of ANY age!

Lee Smith, author of 22 books, including the New York Times best-selling novel The Last Girls

From the electrifying opening sentence of Finding Your Place, Jan Irwin’s deft prose transports us to another time in this novel about loss and gain, about the vital importance of place and friendship. Both young and adult readers will be taken, as I was, into Ginny's world. I cheered for her as I came to see her courage, her curiosity, and her determination to overcome the many obstacles in her way. This marvelous book was a page-turner for me!

Anna Jean Mayhew, author of Tomorrow's Bread

The evocative world of Ginny's mill village will capture the imaginations of children as well as adults. And young Ginny—as she struggles with change, friendships, and family—will capture readers' hearts. Get ready for an unforgettable read!
